Any photo that is 8”x10” or smaller can be sent in a photography package. Any images that are larger than that will be priced as special media and will be priced at $1.78 per scan at the premium resolution and $2.88 per scan at the expert resolution.

No problem! Just send us the carousel with the slides in them. We will remove each slide, scan it, return it to the carousel and send the carousel back to you.
Absolutely! ScanDigital will accept your photo albums. We will remove your photos, scan them and replace them. If we are not able to replace the images back to the album, we will notify you immediately. You can include these as part of a Photography package.
We are experts at handling one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable materials. However, if we examine items you send and see any risk in handling them, we will notify you immediately before processing your order.
For photo scans, Premium resolution is at 600dpi (dots per inch) and Expert resolution is at 1200dpi. For negatives and slides, Premium resolution is at 3000dpi and Expert resolution is at 4000dpi. If you are looking to do edits or any other work on the files that we provide, we recommend that you choose Expert resolution. Don't hesitate to contact us if you want to talk about these options further.
When necessary, in order to remove dust we use compressed air on slides and negatives, and professional grade photo cleaner on printed photos. Additionally, our scanners use Digital ICE technology for slides and negatives to automatically remove dust and minor scratches.
We will manually rotate your photos and crop any black border left after the scanning process. In addition, we will correct color; remove and minor blemishes; and digitally optimize the photos to provide you the best digital images possible. This superior services is provided regardless of the resolution level selected.
Digital ICE is a technology that allows scanners to automatically identify and remove dust marks and minor scratches. Digital ICE performs a scan of the film with Infra-red (IR) light. Using the IR scan, the machine visualizes surface defects in the film, like dust or scratches, and then scans the film normally. Once both scans are completed, special software uses the IR defect map to replace the defective areas. The results can be a dramatic improvement from the original.
In order to ensure that we never miss a moment in a tape, we transfer an entire tape, whether there is 2 minutes or 2 hours of footage. Therefore, our pricing is by the tape, regardless of how much footage there is.
You only get a Flash Drive with your transfer. You may get a DVD at an additional cost by calling our Customer Service department at 1.888.333.2808.
We are able to work with a wide variety of tapes: VHJS, VHS-C, High8, miniDV, Video/Digital 8, Beta Max, Beta Cam, and U-Matic tapes. If you are not sure what type of tape you have, please give us a call and we can confirm for you.
Unfortunately, we are prohibited by federal law from transferring any materials under copyright protection with permission from the person or entity the holds the copyright. We would be able to transfer the materials if 1) You are the actual creator of the material, or 2) the material is protected by copyright, and you have written permission from the copyright owner that allows ScanDigital transfer the material; or 3) you have verified that the material is public domain.
We can transfer the materials under these circumstances and will need to you include a signed copyright waiver with your materials. If you would like a copyright waiver, please let us know prior to placing your order.
We can fix the tape. If a repair is performed and the transfer is successful, there will be an additional fee of $10.00 per tape for the repair.
Reels are measured by their diameter (one side to the other of the reel). If the reel has a diameter of:
3 inches, then it has 50 feet of film
4 inches, then it has 100 feet of film
5 inches, then it has 200 feet of film
6 inches, then it has 300 feet of film
7 inches, then it has 400 feet of film
Absolutely! If there is sound on the reels, that will be captured along with the movie when transferring move reels. We are not able to add or edit sound on film transfers.
We specialize in converting 8mm film, Super8 film, 16mm film, and 35mm film.
USB drives will be purchased from us when the order is placed. In order to preserve the safety of our hardware and customer files, we do not accept any customer USB drives.
You are welcome to send your media in whatever containers that currently house them. You may ship your photos to us in boxes, slide carousels or zip lock bags.
When you package your materials, make sure all materials are secured and won't shift during shipment. If they are in a box, stuff the box with paper to fill the empty voids. We recommend using plastic wrap to protect all materials against moisture and dust during the shipment process. Avoid using packing materials that generate dust or debris.
Yes, all of your original materials will be returned to you along with your digital copies. Rest assured you will receive back all of your one-of-a-kind family memories.

Depending on the type of order, digitized materials will be sent on USB drive or hard drive. When placing the order, you will be able to choose either option.
All files we send you can be uploaded to cloud storage. Note that if you chose Expert resolution, the resulting files will be larger and therefore will take more time to upload.

Sure! We can provide you multiple drives initially and can provide you with copies of photo files for up to a year. For tapes and reels, we retain those for 2-3 weeks due to their file size.
If you send in a photo package or special media package with fewer materials, there are no refunds or credit on these flat rate packages. For tapes and reels, final billing will be adjusted according to the items that are processed vs what was not processed. If what you need digitized doesn't match with one of the purchasing options we offer, just call us (1.888.333.2808) and we will put together a custom package that meets your needs.
No problem! We will send you an adjusted invoice via email once we have a count of final items processed. All items will be priced in a la carte fashion.
