Best Photo Editing Apps

Whether you’re trying to build a following for your Instagram page or simply want to alter the look of your digital photos, you may have considered using a photo editing app. Several hundred photo editing apps are available for iPhones (iOS) and Androids, making choosing the best one a little daunting. No problem — many reputable and unbiased online reviews can help you find the right photo editor app to fit your needs. While a handful of apps are iOs-only, the following free and top-rated photo apps are available on both platforms.

If you have old analog images that still need to be digitized or recently had some converted, no need to worry about apps for these. Our highly skilled technicians incorporate techniques available in the best photos apps to optimize your digital photos, including cropping, rotating, color correcting, and red-eye removal.

Best Photo Editing Apps for iPhone and Androids

In general, the best photo editing apps fall into two categories: apps meant for consumers and those geared towards professional photographers or more serious photo enthusiasts. Although many picture editing apps include a certain number of free features, some require a monthly or annual subscription to access all the bells and whistles. For most consumers, the free versions will suffice.

Google Photos

While it offers minimal editing tools, this app organizes photos and videos automatically and backs up your entire image library to the cloud. From the cloud, it seamlessly syncs to all devices on which the app is installed, including Apple phones, tablets, and computers, as well as Windows computers, and all Android devices. Its photo-editing features are quick and simple to use. Sliders are used to adjust the color, light, and contrast (pop) of an image, and the same method is used for a handful of filters that control the strength of the effect. Most experts consider this app a necessity, however, you’ll need more sophisticated photo effects apps if you want to elevate blah photos into images with a wow factor!

Snapseed

Snapseed is included in many reviews as the best photo editing app for both beginners and experienced photographers. This app is user-friendly with less of a learning curve than competitors while still offering impressive editing tools. It’s easy to improve exposure, color, and sharpness; and crop, rotate, and straighten images. A standout feature is that for every effect, filter, or edit you implement, the app creates a Stack (what Adobe calls layers). This means any edit you make can easily be reversed or tweaked without impacting the integrity of the original image.

PicsArt

This app is fun and easy to use, yet it offers extensive creative control, excellent image-editing tools, a large variety of attractive filters, and a wide array of tutorials. In addition, you can add cool stickers and create customizable collages and artistic effects. The only downside is that PicsArt ads pop up while you’re editing in the free version. Turning them off and getting access to additional premium tools requires an annual or monthly subscription.

Adobe Photoshop Camera

This app features AI, which makes it stand out in the crowd. Adobe Sensei automatically identifies the type of photo (portrait or landscape) and creates masks for key aspects (e.g., a face or the sky). A wide choice of lenses (filters) are available and used to apply special effects or make adjustments to color, lighting, and clarity. These can be applied in real-time or post-capture, and a few are included that feature small animations like shooting stars. This app is completely free with no premium versions.

Photoscape X

While this less sophisticated app lacks the intricate and complex editing tools of many other photo apps, it’s a great choice for beginning photographers. Batch editing, single photo editor, and more are all laid out in tabs across the top, with adjustments down the side. As a result, it’s easy to batch edit JPEGs, quickly apply global adjustments, and downsize a huge number of full-resolution photos in a few seconds.

Whether you have the newest iPhone with a dazzling array of features or an older android, photo editing apps can give existing shots a whole new look — on the go or from the comfort of your home!
